Frame and Lid for Penetrations

ROSS Polymer were contracted to design and manufacture 3 alternative size penetration frames with lids. The frames and lids are rectangular in shape, made from polymer based material and can be installed in floors and walls. The main design characteristic of this frame and lid when installed in floor penetrations are its spill dam control and “stop the drop” technology. It is primarily used in specialist construction and infrastructure projects to provide secure access to underground and between floor utility systems, such as plumbing, electrical, or telecommunication networks. This type of lid is designed with features that enhance safety, prevent spills, and eliminate the risk of dropping the lid during maintenance or inspections.

Key design considerations

Construction: The lid and frame are constructed from durable and lightweight polymer materials. The compound material is chosen for its fire resistance, resistance to corrosion, weathering, adaptability, off gassing which make it compatible for cleanroom environment ensuring a longer lifespan and reduced maintenance requirements.

Spill Dam Control: The lid is equipped with spill dam control features. These are raised edges or barriers along the perimeter of the lid that help contain any spills or liquids within the chamber, preventing them from flowing onto the surrounding floor area.

“Stop the Drop” Technology: This innovative technology ensures that small objects cannot fall between floor during installation and modification to the components when installing mechanical and electrical services.

Gasket or Seal: Many high-quality access chamber lids feature a gasket or seal around the perimeter. This seal helps prevent water, dust, and debris from entering the chamber, maintaining the integrity of the underground utility systems.

Load-Bearing Capacity: The lid is engineered to support the expected loads in its environment, ensuring it can withstand foot traffic and other stresses without compromising its structural integrity.

UV Resistance: The compound material has a high level of UV-resistant, which means they won’t degrade or become brittle when exposed to sunlight, making them suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications.

Customization: These lids can be customized to fit specific project requirements, colour, and additional features like logo markings or labelling for identification.
